Death

Death lies beside you while you’re sound asleep.
Its cool breath sharp against your pulsing neck.
Whispers sound, but turn around, not a peep.
Every now and then you will have to check.
Heart pounds and perspiration starts to form.
It is always a step ahead of you;
Watching you among the shadows that swarm.
And you must know that whatever you do,
Don’t you dare look it in between the eyes.
Don’t offer it a challenge; you will lose.
The one thing that we all seem to despise,
It is a destiny we could not choose.
From the very moment we are all born,
We’re bound by a contract that ends by morn.
